Friend Husband Left and She's left on her own with 2 kids, advise needed

Just wondered if anyone could help a friend of mine husband left 3 weeks ago, he has no job due to be extremely ill last year and cannot go back for a while, she has been left with 2 kids (4 and 1). At the moment she lives in a council house (which gets paid), and receives a bit of disability benefit, she also gets her council tax paid for.

Does anyone know if she can claim for anything else, its just that she has absolutely nothing to live on

What disability benefit does she receive? Does she receive CTC?

    CTC is child tax credits.

    This should be of help.

If her husband isn't working there'll be not much to come from him but she probably does need to contact the CSA (child support agency) to claim anyway if she is claiming benefits (unless the rules have changed since I was in this situation).

She is, I presume, receiving Child Benefit (the one we can all claim) and now that she is on her own this can be paid to her weekly instead of four-weekly - easily done online here
(I can't find anywhere where it tells you you can have the benefit paid weekly but I did and it won't hurt to ask!).

    THIS
    might also help

Would she still be entitled to that if neither of them work??

Yes, CTC are payable by virtue of having children. Working Tax Credits (WTC) require the claimant to be in work.

CTC replaced (eventually) what used to be the Married Man's Tax Allowance. Which used to be higher than a single man's allowance or a woman's allowance. It used to have the code H after it.
They did without it for 2/3 years then introduced Child tax Credits to give families (whether the parents were married or not,or single parents, a higher tax allowance to reflect their higher living expenses ;).
At one time a working wife with a non-working husband could set both her own, and her husband's, tax allowance against her own wages!

(And Child Benefit used to be called Family Allowance hence the child allowance confusion ^^)

and just to set your minds at rest I DON'T work for H.M.R.C.;)
