Oh, poor you. Don't open the freezer, if you leave it shut it should stay cold enough until the morning. As for the fridge, I'd run the sink full of water and keep the dairy products cool in there. Anything else, wrap in newspaper, just like when you're defrosting the freezer.Context is all.

Thank you, I just don't believe this, we are really skint this month too, I don't know how we will afford a new one, not to mention replacing all the food.
Its taught me one thing though, I will never bulk buy again!Just in case you wondered I am Mrs Wingman can't be bothered setting up my own account

can you not claim on your insurance ...this happened to us..but our freezer was 6mths old..we got all our money back..check your policy....bulk buy ..usually works out cheaper0

Good ideas from all above - not much of use to add , but I hope that you manage to keep things cool enough to transfer to other places in the morning, and/or claim on your insurance - at least if you have just been shopping today, you should have your receipts to claim with... , but I hope that you manage to keep things cool enough to transfer to other places in the morning, and/or claim on your insurance - at least if you have just been shopping today, you should have your receipts to claim with...

put up a wanted on freecycle to see if anyone has an old one you could have. Ours has had several over the last couple of months.
Ask a neighbour or family if they can keep the frozen stuff for you for now.0

If it's still off, try asking around all of your friends and relatives and neighbours to see how much each of them could take for you. Even one item each (pick the expensive ones first) could help you out a lot.
Secondly... anything you can't find a temporary home for, or has fully defrosted - cook it. That'll give you another day or two if you can keep it cool and another few days if you can find friendly fridge space - not to mention that as soon as things are sorted out you can freeze the cooked product. Remember that you can not simply re-freeze things that have defrosted.
There are a couple of other threads on coping with freezer disasters and I'll see if I can find them for you; so watch this space

Go on freecycle and put up an urgent wanted....theres always ones offered on our local site too....Good Luck!!
Also we went on holiday once and came back to the whole freezer full of food defrosted and we were able to claim on our household insurance.
 Good Luck!!0

Keeping my fingers crossed that it was a wee glitch, and all fine - however, if not.
You have a massive cooking day ahead of you for all meat/poultry in the freezer. Just cook it as simply as you can, oven for chicken and joints, in pot or slow cooker for mince, stewing steak. Get some friends to help if you can.
Let it all cool down and bag and tag - or into containers. Beg, borrow, steal space in anyone's freezer until you get sorted out.
If you live anywhere near Dundee/Angus, can lend you a mini-fridge....other than that perhaps someone you know has one . Least will keep your milk, butter and cheese cool. Coolboxes are another method - with bags of ice - but Squeaky will tell me off! However emergency situation so I think a bag of ice for 99p in coolbox is ok.0
