Do i need Buildings Regs on work done 10 yrs +??

I just brought a house (cash buy) with a very bad loft conversion/extension, the work was completed 20 years ago and had building regs excepted in 1991. This conversion needs repairing.. eg the roof needs repairing and some structural things need doing to make sure it will last another 20 years. nothing major just for piece of mind. Do i need to go to the council and get them to regulate what work i do from now on ??? Because i'm worried that if i approach them , that they will make me pull it down and take it back to what it was, because the conversion hasnt been finished off very well 20 years ago and has deterioted quite a bit. ?? can anyone help me????

Basically yes you do what structural work are you planning and what are you doing to the roof, if it passed building regs before they can't make you take it down.
The works you do from now on will have to pass the current regs, providing they are notifiable.0 -
And when you come to sell, your buyers will want proof that all the work you did was building reg approved. Deal with it now, it's all over & done with & you can be secure in the knowledge that everything was done correctly to the current standard.0

as long as a completion certificate was issued when it was first built then no they cannot make you take it down..
if you choose to modify the extension now then you will need to apply for building regs for it and the works will need to comply to current building regs (depending on what work you plan to do)0 -
I would have thought that repairs shouldn't need building regs - certainly it would be arguable - what structural work is needed?0
