Lost Vehicle Registration Document, change of address and car tax due! Help!

Hello

In October I moved house, and as I knew it was only going to be a very short term let (3 months) I didn't change the address on my vehicle registration document. At the end of January I moved again, and sent my vehicle registration document to DVLA with the change of address. I rang them today, as the 4 weeks they tell you to wait before contacting them are up and I've not had it back, and they say they have never received it. So it looks like its been lost in the post!

My car tax is due at the end of this month, and DVLA say the only option is to go to my local DLVA office and apply for a replacement and get my tax at the same time. They are only open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, I work between these times and am unable to get the time off work (work for a small business and I run the office), and in any case the 'local' DVLA office is about an hour and a half away.

Can anyone think of anyway I can get my car tax?!?! The reminder would have gone to my old, old address that I left in October, and I have emailed my old landlord to see if it has turned up there but he hasnt replied.

I think I'm stuffed, but if anyone can suggest anything I would be eternally grateful!!

Thanks
Lea

  • If you have valid insurance and an MOT, you can use the reference number on your tax reminder form to purchase your tax online. The DVLA use the reference number on the reminder to cross reference your V5 details on their database, and they know if your other documents are up to date, and issue you a disc online which comes in the post.

That way your car stays taxed, and you have a bit more breathing room to get the DVLA to find your lost docs.

Hi, yes thats right, havent got the reminder. Have contacted my old landlord to see if the new tenant has it (unlikely I suppose), but even with this, won't the tax then be sent to this address too? Will it even pass the cross-checks, as my car insurance docs have my new correct address on?

    Nightmare!!
