can't download files

Hi, can someone please helpme.I am with bt internet.I cannot download any files, pics etc.I have tried to uninstall explorer 8, but can't complete the process.I have done a system restore to a date before I had the problem, but it still won't work.I have tried to use help forums, but I cant download anything they offer as a solution.

No, I click on the file, it scans for viruses, I click to download the file and nothing happens.However, a largish box comes up on the screen regularly with just the ie logo in a box at the top.Apart from that, the box stays empty.0

What virus protection do you use? If the file is from a trusted source, you could try switching off your security and see if the file downloads.Norn Iron Club Member 417:beer:0

Hello,
I've had this happen a couple of times. Each time IE goes to download something, it tries to save in the previously used directory and it can hang if it can't find it. This often happens if the last thing you saved was to a removable USB drive or network drive that is no longer connected.
If you're comfortable using Registry Editor, have a look at what the following key is set to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download Directory
If it's pointing to a drive letter that no longer exists, you could try changing this to "C:\" (without the quotes)
