Windows XP not operating

Hi All,

My son has recently been browsing the web using the PC. I am not sure what has happened by now when logging on all I see is the background picture on the desktop and nothing else and then the PC automatically logs off the user. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing and I am at a loss to what to do.

Any suggestions are welcome

Thanks

It may do but I do not know how. I cannot see anything to request a system restore. And now I cannot get past the log on screen. It keeps logging me off as soon as I type in the password.

Do any of the recovery options in this thread help?

Tried the safe mode options but non of them worked.

As suggested in the last thread I have just tired to reload windows XP but it appears that i need to be able to log on first. I am unable to do this so I am back to square one.

Any other suggestions from you helful people will be greatly appreciated.

Boot into safe mode, and if you can use internet explorer then log into your reimage.com account and start a repair... you need internet access to select Safe mode with networking.

I have mixed feelings about reimage.com - it only works for XP and I have a 50% success rate... it restores your win xp windows system files / dll and gets xp up and runing again but keeping your data intact.

Obviously, you do this at your own risk - may make it worse which will require a re-install of xp (only happened once for me out of 20 repairs!).

Let me know how you get on
  • Have you got your Windows CD?
