    I need some advice.

I have a livingroom ceiling that desperately needs painting.
hallway, landing and stairs walls, stairs ceiling.

Normaly i'd go out get the paint. tray, rollers brushes etc etc.

but the problem i have is, i have a disability that wipes out any energy i used to have, and i need this done ans i have a french exchange student coming in a months time, and feel a little ashamed of the state of these areas. And i thought the paint pod with be useful for me

I am considering getting a proffessional in to do this job as i already have (bought years ago) ceiling paint - goes on pink dries white.

    I have done the sums and if i bout a paint pod £50.00 B & Q
2 brilliant white pots of paint £30 for 2
    2 magnolia £40 for 2
extended tubing for hight ceilings £4.00
    £124.00

plus i can use the paint pod again.

    Living room is 13ft

which would be the cheaper, better?
Help need some advice on what i should do.
Also advertised my job on my hammer too giving a job quote of £150

we were told there was one that would do any "one man job" as long as we provided the materials.
Ask your O.T if you have one.

I borrowed a paint pod to do my sitting room and snapped the roller instantly, apparently this is a regular problem with these. I bought a new roller and returned that to its rightful owner before buying one for myself, I used that once and now it wont switch on properly.

They're noisy as hell and although they say they're self cleaning they dont clean the rollers, brushes etc which is all you ever have to clean without a paint pod anyway.

    Dont bother,

Why would a professional rip you off?

Search around and get quotes from 2 or 3 different professionals. Have a word with friends/colleagues and see if anyone has any reccomendations.

Simply because they are 'professionals' doesn't mean that they are going to 'rip you off'.

I bought one of these a month ago to cover a yellow and teracotta room. I am painting it natural hessian. It painted over both colours brilliantly, dried quickly and overall did a great job. The brush for corners was great. However, last nigh I was 3/4 through room when the roller handle falls off with the button that should stay attached for when you swap to the other attachment. I am going back to B & Q with it today. Had it for weeks but as its a fault I am asking for my money back. I am complete agonoy today, my arm and hand have completely seized up, which I don't usually have a problem with when using a roller, pad or brush. I had to sellotape the roller on at the attachment, so although I am so pleased with the finish from the roller and not having to keep refilling, I am horrified that it can be so simple for the handle to fall off. luckily it fell on laminate floor which I mopped straight away!

  • Agree with much of the other posters in that the paint selection is limited, the paint costs more and the paint is thin so you need more coats. Having said that I am still glad we got one as have just decorated 3 rooms and it has been great for us!

2 pots of paint (1 white and 1 off-white - can't remember which) have been enough for the ceilings and 2 wall coatings for all 3 rooms (we were paiting over similar colours).

As others have said the paintpod does not speed up the preparation or painting the edges/corners...but you can cover a wall in literally under 10 minutes with a really nice finish (better than I've ever achieved with a brush or pad or roller... I am a rank amateur though!). Ceilings can be done quickly as well, and without dragging step ladders around the room, which I really appreciate.

Never had a problem with the cleaning cycle though I do drain a couple of times after the wash to make sure the tube is dry. Also it's helpful to give the brush and extra rinse at the end to make sure it's clean and drys quickly.

So I'm really glad we got ours. It has made a job I'm not very good at and don't really like much more bearable and with good results at the end. If you enjoy decorating and are skilled at it then I can see the paintpod would not be beneficical.

We got ours half price from B&Q and the plan was to sell it on ebay after the decorating for around same price (they were going for about £25-£35 at time on ebay - not sure now) but we've decided to keep it as we would def use it again :)
