This might help... or why not go along to the library and take a look through the garden section..

If you look at the plants that gives you an idea.
Herbs that are succulent and tender tend to be annuals i.e you need to plant them each year e.g basil, parsley, coriander.
Woody plants tend to be perennials i.e come back each year but will need to be pruned and fed to keep them in tip top condition e.g rosemary, bay, thyme. Although many perennials will need to be replaced after a few years as they get tough.0 -
hi kings981
thank you so much for that i have made a note of what you said
many thanks0 -
One year there was a free pack of herb seeds in The Times. As there were all different ones in the packet I filled one of those cheap flower buckets with soil(Morrisons), flattened the surface - not too much of course, and sprinkled the seeds over before covering lightly. I was really please when they all came up. I still have the bucket and the one herb that has turned out to be hardy is flat parsley, the continental one.0

Hi
Suggested to me was the Vegetable & Herb Expert by Dr D.G.Hessayon.
Its mainly about Vegs but about 12 pages all about herbs, how/when to grow etc & different types so it could be worth borrowing rather than buying as its mainly on veg but if you are going to the library definatley worth getting out just for the info.0 -
