Transferring courses- urgent help needed please!!!!

Options
hello im really desperate for this info so im wondering if someone can help me please?

i am currently at uni in year two ( for the second time, first time i was signed off sick and this is a deffered year- whilst aplying for my loan this i ticked the repeat year box online, gathering uni notified LEA that i was signed off sick). i am really hating the course that i am on (Bsc Hons 4 year sandwhich degree) and want to transfer to another course.

i went to the open day on friday andspoke to the course leader, i will need to take year one as i do not have all the required modules to start at year two. the course leader also said it was fine for me to transfer courses and would be really happy for me to start in sept. i then went to speak to the student liason lady about my funding situation as i have explianed above and what would i be entitled to? she said that i would be entitled to full funding for the course which is three years but i dont know how she worked that out? as far as i have calculated it im only entitled to two more years funding tops in which case it means i wont be able to start uni in sept, will have to work and save up to do it. can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

here is my calcs 4+1=5 -3 = 2 so 2 years remaining but i do have mitigating cercs so would i get the extra year?

sorry this is so long but i really need it answering asap as im half way through my year two for the second time :(

    Ok.

You've got the calculation right, in that it should be new course +1 - number of previous years.

If you have provided to your LEA evidence that your illness caused you to repeat the previous course, and it will only count as 2 previous years of funding. In any case, you will only be entitled to a maintenance loan in year one.

I am guessing you have received payment from the SLC or been in attendance in 3 academic years. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.
  • thank you for your reply taiko, i spoke to my students union today and they have advised on what to do so that i can still gt full funding. i did just check my savings and have enough for the fees if i dont have one years funding so just to work and save for other things now but that has put my mind at rest xx

Sorry, I got that slightly wrong, think I got distracted by a phone call with a student shouting down the phone at me.

If you did get the extra years award, it would be year two of the course that you need to pay fees yourself.

This is because CPR as it's known internally is allocated to the first year of the new course.
  • i was told due to my cercs for this year and the previous year i would be entitled to funding for both the years in terms of cpr. thursday i will be going to see someone about the letters and collect all the info from my record that is required and was told that under the LEA's own regs they have to give it to me but i shouldnt worry as i have a very strong case anyway. thank you for all your help it has been apprecieated. xx
