Hi,
My girlfriend and I are about to buy our first place and we have had the offer of a second hand kitchen from a friend. Its a solid wood granite worktopped number so pretty good.
The problem is that room it is coming from is a rectangular shape and the new one is anything but!! The question is do we sink the money we have saved into getting this kitchen fitted or do we decline the offer and invest the money in a new one which ultimately will be made to measure to our room dimensions but wont be of as good a quality due to budgetary constraints.
Does anyone know of any companies that do kitchen designs without the kitchen or works with recycled ones to fit new spaces?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Iain

Are you getting the kitchen for nothing ?0

Kitchen design, unless you go real top end is nearly always about getting standard units to fit your space. So I would take an inventory of what your friend has and see if you can get it to fit in some sort of way.
In the end I would probably chose a cheep new kitchen over battling it make something old fit.
Goggle SketchUp is a free modelling program that may help.0 -
If you were getting it for nothing , and as first time house owners short of money .
Sell the granite or dump it , it won't fit
But the carcasses are all standard , use them and buy a cheap top.
Buy a drill / spirit level and fit it yourself
Its only a kitchen .0 -
I suppose it depends on how much OP has too spend ?0

Give us the 'shopping ' list and a plan of the kitchen .
We would love to design ( or at least argue ) your kitchen

Hi, thanks for the advice.
Some more info...
1. I downloaded sketch up today and it doesnt look good!
2. The kitchen is a bespoke build for the other place so the units arent a standard size.
3. If we couldnt make it fit we would sell the whole thing - Maybe keep the granite
4. Its got all the appliances can you get those refitted into a new kitchen.
Our budget is about £2500 cash and then the rest we would need to find from somewhere. Sale of the old kitchen. Recycle parts of it into the new one.
As its our first flat we dont have a massive budget but we really had our heart set on doing the kitchen first as the rest of the place we can live with and do over time.
Thanks for all the input so far.
PS if someone is a sketchUp pro tell me how to export the .skp to jpg and ill post it to allow everyone to comment.0 -
