Out of curiosity, I just looked at the funds in a few sectors ranked by 1 year performance. There seemed to be a lot more newish funds languishing in the bottom quartile than at the top. Obviously there are some examples where early adopters do well, but it seems there are also plenty of examples where they do very badly.Of course but I feel no need to, just do your own research and you'll find many examples.

I guess parallels can be drawn with new businesses, the majority of which, we are told, fail in the first five years. People tend to forget the failures, but the biggest successes are always remembered.0 -
Obviously the biggest problem with new funds is just the lack of track record. It's hard enough judging a fund even with a decent record behind it. Which is why it amazes me that H-L so often have the brass neck to put spanking new funds immediately in their "Wealth 150", presumably by some sort of arrangement. Look at some of the Ab Return funds they recommended. The Artemis one has slightly outperformed the FTSE in recent weeks with less volatility and certainly looks one of their better guesses.0

Which part of 'doing a good job at the moment' don't you understand?
When you learn that 1 year is shorter than a New York minute in investment terms? Particularly when we have just been through one of the best rallies ever???
Did your arrogance come naturally, or did you have to train?;)In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
