Hi everyone. Sorry if this has been done, but can't find it anywhere. I'm looking for 2 readings for the service. The vicar tells me 1 has to be religious. I'm struggling to find any I like - just wondering if anyone else has any good ones they know of?
Also with hymns - we need at least 2. I love All Things Bright and Beautiful, but cant think of anymore. Ideas???
Thanks xxx

I have a book called Poems & Readings for Weddings edited by Julia Watson. I have found 2 religious readings:
Dear friends, let us love one another,
because love comes from God. Whoever
loves is a child of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God,
for God is love. And God showed his love
for us by sending his only Son into the world,
so that we might have life through him.
This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means
by which our sins are forgiven.
Dear friends, if this is how God loved us, then we
should love one another. No one has ever seen
God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us,
and his love is made perfect in us.
From the First Letter of John - Good News Bible
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and although I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and I have not love, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing. Love suffereth, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Love never faileth, but whether there be prophecies, they shll fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know even more as also I am, known. And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
I Corinthians 13 (New King James version, 1982)
Your vicar should really be able to help you with religious readings. I have a fair few non-religious readings too.0 -

All loves divine
To be a pilgrim
Dear Lord and father of mankind

I like the idea of bind us together and all things bright and beautiful. I think although they are fairly obvious ones, it's much nicer to go for the obvious and people know the words than to go for something "different and unusual" that people mumble along to...Bump due 22nd September0

Oh and the reading, I'm not religious so I can't recommend many but there's one, the Corinthians? I really like that and it's often read at churches.Bump due 22nd September0
