Hi, sorry for the long title, but it's fairly self explanitary, I've got a 5150 for my dad and I have read several times on here about people uninstalling a bunch of programmes Dell "kindly" install for you.
We aren't computer wizzes and would appreciate any advice you'd care to throw in this direction.
Thanks

You might want to leave it all for now and see what you actually use. You might find some of them are handy.
You should have plenty of room on your Hard Disk, so space shouldn't be an issue.
Then after a few weeks, you can look in Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and see what applications are not used and remove them.0 -
The first thing that I would uninstall is AOL, get Mozilla FireFox or Internet Explorer (Already Installed).
I would need to look at the programs already installed and would need to know the programs that you use.

if it comes with norton or mcafee antivirus. REMOVE THEM
1) they're crap
2) they charge a subscription once your free time runs out
get AVG Free instead (https://www.grisoft.com).. its free, is a great program, and after several years of using it, it hasn't let me down yet.0 -
Generally they come with the McAfee Internet Security Suite which includes things like a firewall & spyware removers as well as antivirus. So removing it IS NOT A GOOD IDEA unless you plan to install your own firewall & antispyware, etc software0

removing McAfee from a Dell computer is all but impossible anyway. Even using the fixit software from their own site the thing still leaves a footprint that other AV progs detect, so they won't install properly. It is a good programme, but when it is time to renew, DONT accept their 'halfprice offer' you'll pay a ridiculous price for the subscription. I got mine from My Memory for £8 plus a bit off for using Rpoints (can't recall the url, but a google search should throw it up)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
