What class are you? Do you think you have manners ? Usually people with some sort of intelligence understand the social reasons for unemployment. Oh and I don't suppose it really matters if you have any manners as you seem to spend all day chatting on the net to people who cannot see you. Anyway I have things to do.Nice to save.0

We were not on that at the time, but we are in the process of buying now. GoodbyeNice to save.0

This thread isn't about buying existing council houses, it's about buying ex-council houses that could have been purchased in the 1980's by decent hardworking people!Start BMI - 38.7 Current BMI - 31.2 Target BMI - 26.30

ohmigod missk - you MUST be troll!
council housing is NOT just for for people with no job/money/in receipt of benefits. it is/was for people who are unable to get access to a form of safe housing. when i got my council flat (after living in a hostel for 3years) i was employed and had just graduated from university. the reason i qualified for the hostel and then housing is personal and i am not sharing it here - but one other factor that i also qualified under was 'low income'.
i have since worked hard and am now in a better position and able to buy my flat - however - i would not be able to afford a property otherwise. yes, the Tories should have introduced a scheme to replace properties purchased under RTB - they didn't. as stated above - council have now drastically reduced the amounts of discount - and te be honest under the new discount scheme flats are now unaffordable to purchase under RTB again i.e 1 bed flat in Islington £200k - 16K discount brings the price down to £184k - completely unfeasible for most single people to afford.
people on benefits would not be able to get a mortgage (i think) and if the prospect of be able to buy their home encourages them to get a job then surely that is good thing???
as for your comment about 'the least intelligent is society' - what bigotted rubbish! my immediate neighbours (all in council property) consist of 1 lawyer, 1 accountant, 4 medical students, 1 watch maker, 1 housing officer and a chef.0 -
I have been reading this thread and I am ashamed of quite a few of your attitudes, what utter b******s,sorry I never swear!bad people and bad things happen wherever you live, council estates are no worse than anywhere else.I have lived in house worth 2.2miliion in the most desirable location,we had our cars vandalised and were robbed 6 times in 2 years!,I have also lived in an ex council house, where I found my neighbours nothing but wonderful people, most were married couples with children who just wanted to get on the housing ladder,we never had any problems.
miss Kensington, you sound very young, maybe you need to come down from your high horse and live and let live, stop judging people you know nothing about, you never know maybe one day you could end up on a council estate, there for the grace of god!Debt at highest £102k

Finally sleeping easy in my bed :A0 -
council houses are great, council estates are great. No idea why there are always police cars outside. No idea why everytime there is trouble in the pub its always 'the kids from the estate'.
I am not saying that there are area's in London that are okay, but the North is a completely different kettle of fish! Council Estates up here are like 'Shameless', what dya think they based the tv programme on! Because that is what its like up here!
I think its fair to say that London is a one on its own and shouldn't be included in these aspersions, I'm talking about everywhere outside London and its vicinity.
And no, i will not end up on a Council estate. I could have bought a 5 bed house for the same price as I bought my 3 bed terrace, but I'd rather lose 2 bedrooms. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, but I am just telling you what it is like round here - Oldham, Bury, Bradford, Rochdale...greater Manchester in general. It's that bad, thwn I moved here from Lytham St Annes, I phoned my car insuarnce just for a change of address and my premium went up £400 a year!0 -
Yet again Miss_K you have come accross as a deeply unpleasant little woman.
Id rather live in a *shameless* style "sink estate" any day of the week than live next door to a hardworking person like you:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Lynzpower - I am just telling it like it is. London may attract professional, intelligent people and I don't dispute that as I know prices are through the troof in London. But where I live the people who live in Council/ex-council houses are 85% of the time thieves, hookers, druggies, benefit bums, asylum seekers..... That is the reality and yes it is unpleasant!0

i think you should generalise less MIssK - i also know of some really nice estates outside London.
as for badly behaved disfunctional familes who live off others and certainly don't live in council property: The Royal Family
Prince Phillip: Philanderer, rumoured to have a couple of illigitimates living close to London - alledgely.
Prince Charles - Philanderer, drove his first wife to mental and physical illness and did goodness knows what else.
Camilla - slattern and family wreaker, possible gold digger?
most of the kids - rumoured drug takers, racists? probably an abortion or two amongst the girls I would imagine as well.
i could go on...0 -

The people I know who live in Council Houses only stopped getting benefits and got a job when they realised they could buy their Council house and needed an income to get a mortgage!
You don't have to be on benefits to get a coouncil house. People are often allocated them on a 'points' scheme which you are awarded for things like living in overcrowded condition, medical needs, etc. Income has nothing to do with it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
