Hi all,
This site has been so helpful in the past and i'm preying someone can help me now.
I've recently moved to rural France from London and have learnt a painful lesson the hard way. A lightening strike hit our phone lines and fried my imac G3. So far so bad. I've bought a new computer (the new imac intel core duo) and all I care about now is rescuing my files from the hard drive of my old computer. Yes I know, i know I should have backed up everything (don't kick a man while he's down).
Getting anything done down here, especially for a mac, is a nightmare.
Is there somewhere or someone I can call in the uk who can suggest a way for me to get my hard drive to someone so that my files can be saved to disc or something.
Any help much appreciated,
Jamie Sandford.
PS Obviously have learnt my lesson and need surge protection for the new imac. So many products out there any suggestions on the spec or make of protection I need?

Just extract the hard drive from the dead machine and fit it into an external USB drive caddy available for £20ish and Robert is you mothers brother! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

look into slaving your old hard drive to your new hard drive. I do this on my PC but not sure exactly how you would do it on a mac."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0

does it have a tower ?
OH has the old g3 with a tower and you can just open it and take out the drive ,there is space for at least 2 drives so if yours is the same you could just plug it in inside and copy.
otherwise I would go with expresso's suggestion.0
