Well it had to happen, was on the cards, and here it is. My local is about to close. Great old style terrace pub. Totally shabby, no fruit machine or food. Just a plain old style community pub. A place to chat with friends, have a game of darts. A place for Christening celebrations, birthday dos and even a wake. Run by a nice couple who have worked very hard to keep it going.
Oh well. £2,200 a month rent is just a bit steep and I guess, another figure for the bankruptcy stats.

Luck of the draw old chap, my local is closing tomorrow for paint job and refit including some new big tellys, the building is about 500 years old with a nice big fire and good atmosphere. Be out soon as they are cutting the price of the beer to get rid of it (very MSE).'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Many of my local pubs have a picture of Alistair Darling stuck to their door with the word barred underneath.0 -

My parents were offered their friends pub in 1986. It was an absolute gold mine, it was £86,000. My dad said no. It sold 4 months ago to a guy who was 2 years older than me at school for £220,000.0 -

I wanted them to buy it back then as even I knew we'd make a packet. Some years later I ended up spending most of my life in there for nearly a decade. Probably spent in the region of £25,000 in there. It is why I am bitter.0 -

The £220k equates to a 4% annual YoY increase on the original £86k pub price.0 -
