Considering this man has intolerable pain shooting down his arms, I find it absolutely disgusting that posters on here moan about the need for paragraphs.

Where do you all get off. I found it perfectly easy to read, and it makes good sense.

I hope you find the advice you need Willy.

Clearly you have better cognitive skills than some of us. Perhaps you could provide advice, or provide a summary of his post, rather than just having a rant?

Thank you for your replies. My wife looks after our little girl whose 3 years old. She also looks after me as I'm pretty useless really. She also cares for her sick mother.

Has anyone got any constructive advice please?

would your wife be able to claim carers allowance or something for looking after her mum and you?
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.
  • You've been turned down on the basis of your physical problems 4 times, is that right?

Have you ever thought that perhaps your state of mind is making your condition worse?
Forgive me but your post comes across as very negative.
It's a fact that poor mental health (in your case depression) can lead to poor physical health (and vice versa)
Are you having treatment for this depression?
    Is it working?
If not why haven't you asked your GP for alternative treatment/meds?

Thank you for your replies. My wife looks after our little girl whose 3 years old. She also looks after me as I'm pretty useless really. She also cares for her sick mother. I am not able to look after our little girl, I just do not have the energy levels required for such a task. My thread above is merely a brief description, I have missed much out as not to clog up the forum. I apologise that it has not been broken up into paragraphs, the spelling and grammar are ok though so I can't see what all the fuss is about really. I've come on here as a last resort, it is help I need not advice on how/ho not to write paragraphs.

The CAB, agreed to an interview, but they were not prepared to come with me to the Tribunal. I called dozens of solicitors for legal representation but none of them were prepared to go against the establishment.

Regarding the medication, I've tried most forms and now take Amyltriptaline, DF's, Anti Acids. But, I don't feel that they really make any difference at all.

Has anyone got any constructive advice please?

I thought I'd asked questions from which your answers will hopefully allow people to give more constructive advice...

You may have found it easy to read, but I found it impossible - we aren't all the same.

Asking for it to be broken up was to try and ensure he gets the help he needs...
  • Blimey, you get a real mixed bag on here. I have obviously come to the wrong place for help. If I wanted negative rants I would have become a politician or something similar.

In response to missmontana, that is a good point, one that I will follow up regarding looking after her mom. If they do not recognise that I have a health condition, I doubt that they would grant any carers allowance for the care that my wife provides for me.

"custardy" I'm sorry to hear of your damaged eye, it was not my intention to make reading difficult for people with disabilities. Maybe I should have used a larger sized text for people like you.

"bestpud" thank you for your response, you have raised some good points, I will try and answer in the order that you raised them.

It was announced at the beginning of the tribunal that the ESA representative had chosen not to attend.

The questions they asked were designed to elicit responses that were biased towards the types of responses that would substantiate there claims rather than mine. I strongly believe this based on my experience in the tribunal itself. When I answered a query in relation to my health and abilities they would press me in an attempt for me to change my response to a more favourable one. It was so obvious throughout the tribunal that they were merely trying to negate all of my claims. This brings me to an important point. Why is the onus on me to prove my inability to work. I have the neurosurgeon reports, the doctors letters, and the medical history. Why is this not good enough for them. Surely several neuro specialists and surgeons, MRI scan results and x-rays, and doctors diagnoses cannot all be wrong.

I am aware that there are unscrupulous characters out there that will try and scam and abuse the system of state benefits, but I asure you I am not one of them. Nor am I one of those people who exaggerate there condition to claim benefits, so please cease or avoid that line of questioning or responses.

    Back to the responses.....

We are in receipt of housing benefit, this did stop when the ESA ceased but we made a fresh claim, and as we have no income they are continuing to pay us.......we can't of course use this to buy food because we have to pay the rent. We are also falling behind with the gas and electricity as each week passes....but I just cannot pay them anymore. We receive child tax credit and child benefit obviously for our daughter. This has not stretched for owever.

I have not attended a pain clinic appointment yet as I have not been given a date....I am hopeful, but I am not holding my breath as as I have mentioned above nothing seems to work on me to date. Maybe I'll need horse sized doses as I am 6ft 5 and weigh 18 stone....

My MP has chosen not to be contactable by email, but I have not heard of him holding a local surgery, I will investigate this.

The CAB have not been as helpful as I would have expected. They were however, very polite and empathic towards my plight but seemed to lack the bite that I went to them for and hope that they had.
  • The council or your local library will be able to tell you when your councillor or MP holds surgeries.

Your wife might be able to claim Carer's Allowance if she fits the criteria - she would only be able to claim for caring for one person, though.

Could you do office based work so that you do not move around too much?

Could your wife work part time in the evenings so that you do not have to look after your daughter for too long (most of the time she would hopefully be asleep)?

Could you apply for DLA? It is a separate benefit to ESA, so it is possible that you might recevei it, depending on your care needs.

Can the JS+ help you any further? If they won't let you sign on for JSA, but you can't get ESA, ask them for more help.

Have you applied for Council Tax benefit?

Thank you for the paragraphs in your second post. I also struggled to read the first one. I don't think anybody was being overly critical - you appear quite sensitive and defensive. It's just that large blocks of text are difficult for many people to read. I struggle because I cannot look at the screen for more than a few seconds at a time, due to sensitivity to light. Paragraphs make it much easier for me to read and to find my place when I have looked away. I already use the zoom facility, as I struggle to read any of the forum when it is at the standard size.

Morgan_Ree, thank you for you reply.

You are right, I am very depressed. It has been up and down or I have been up and down. I have not always recognised that I have been depressed and I have not always welcomed intervention and medication. But, I have now come to the point where I really have had enough and feel that I cannot take it anymore. This is why I have accepted my doctors recommendation to increase the amyltriptoline doses. Only a week in, but no mood improvement as yet.

My pains are physical, and can deteriorate with mood, but they are always there, and are definatelt not caused by my mood in my experience.
