Hi. Can someone help please? Ive been told by BT that I cannot get out of an 18mth contract with them for phone only without penalty. I have 9mths left, I disagree and am affected by their change to the evening call times and wish to chnage supplier. BBC said we can, BT actually rang me to say that because I entered am 18mth contract to get free installation, i cannot get out now. Who's right? Thanx.

Surely you can only get out of the deal if you had inclusive weekday evening calls in your call bundle, and in any case as you got free connection you would still have to pay a cancellation fee for the remainder of the contract.
  • Thanx 4 replying. i signed up 4 weekends package.
  • but i make calls between 6 and 7 friday so it does affect me, also i never make calls between 6 and 7 in the morning so am losing that hour really.

How exactly can it affect you?

You always paid for calls between 6pm and 7pm anyway.

The only people it can affect are those who had inclusive evening calls.

EDIT : thanks to MarkLS12 I realsie that you would be affected as you would now have to pay daytime rates instead of evening rates. Not sure about your free connection offer though.

BT charges different rates for "Daytime" and "Evening" calls.
If you need to know exactly, see here:

    You are quite correct.

I completely forgot that daytime rates would be different and therefore would apply to the 6-7pm time slot when normally evening rates would apply.

    So markymoos would be affected.

Whilst he may be affected by the price of the calls,he would still be expected to pay the balance of the connection charge which he got for free on condition for staying for 18 months.
