Tax disk question.

Options
I was just wondering, if your car is parked on the road outside you house and you cover the window screen overnight to stop the frost, do you have to keep the tax disk on display?

  • I know it was a random question, i've noticed quite a few cars have covered up their screens tonight because of the snow here. Obviously I have the tax disk stuck to the window but was wondering if it was legal to put the cover over the screen, the snow would cover it anyway even if I didn't?

  • So if you can't have the cover on where would you stand if the snow covered your tax disk?

I think in this day and age tax discs are checked by computer - I very much doubt that the Police would bother to prosecute anyone who covered their windscreen overnight.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • Thank you, I will go and cover the car for the night then come back into the warm for a nice cuppa :D

They probably wouldn't, but the option is there as the law requires the disc be displayed, not just bought, so it depends at least partly on the mood of the officer (be polite to them*;)) etc.

IIRC they show a fair bit of leeway though under the right circumstances (for example a lot of bikers don't have anywhere to display is securely so carry it on the person, which most officers understand).

*Like many offences where the officers have the option of a fixed fine, polite word or advisory if you're polite when they query it, they'll normally be more than happy to settle for the polite word (it takes them less time, much less paperwork etc).
  • Thanks, it's just a window screen cover not a full one. :o

I hope you guys sit up at night keeping the corner of the screen free from snow and frost through the night so the disc is always visible....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
