Just had our garage converted to a habitable room (playroom), do we have to update a) building insurance b)mortgage company??

i would say make your insurer know - some of the conditions say you let them know about any changes

Yes, you need to advise them that you have had major building work done, and any changes to the value of the rebuild cost of your property. (just tell them how much the work cost, and they will add it to the sum insured).
Also they will need to increase the amount of bedrooms your policy has... so if your policy is bedroom rated, then it may go up a couple of pounds.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
