Does anyone know if you can still pay unlimited amount of coins into a childs savings account? I have a halifax account for grandson and today counted change jar and have £120 all sorted and bagged up. I want to put it into his account then can withdraw it again online.
My own bank will only take 5 bags a day and do not want to use coinstar machine.
thanks

Yes, Halifax will accept unlimited numbers of bags into the child's account, provided that they are all bagged up correctly.0

Halifax being an old building society might have restrictions but there are other ways to changing it without using coinstar- ask your local newsagents if they want change or your local pub.
Businesses are charged for change so if they can get it for free they might be happy to oblige.
You could easily spend £2 £1 and say 50p yourself exchanging them for notes as you go along.0

5 bags per day. Exception is into children's accounts where any amount will be accepted.jonesMUFCforever wrote: »Halifax being an old building society might have restrictions0

5 bags a day is crazy. I heard this before. A bank limiting how much money, albeit small money bags, will take? Surely not? lol :eek:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

If a bank doesn't have many business customers (as is the case of the ex-building societies), then it will cost them more to process the bags of coins than they would make by accepting them.5 bags a day is crazy. In my local Bank of Scotland branch they said they would accept an unlimited amount of coins at the Business Banking counter, but that I could put in a few bags at the personal counters.
I imagine Halifax will probably have the same policy.0

My local Natwest has a "coinstar style" machine that takes no comission and you can pay in unlimited coins, I think ~10000 at a time or something but you could just put your card in again to pay in more0

My local HSBC branch has this aswell. I keep all my change in a jar and take it there a couple of times a year. Gets credited straight to your current account with no commission0
