If you set up internet banking, get her to check before she goes out. Once it becomes habit, it sticks and she'll never get charged, even when she turns 18.

When you say basic accounts - which ones exactly?

I only need to be able to pay in a fiver a week for her to have some cash to take out.

The Under 19s ones technically shouldn't let her go overdrawn anyway, but they tend to be like adult accounts and the computer just lets them take money. I don't know this for fact but it has happened to a number of people on MSE.

My daughter has a NatWest Adapt, and her card was refused even when she (accidentally) tried to go 10p overdrawn.
