Moving abroad and want settle credit card debt

Hi

I am moving to Australia and I d like to pay of all my cc debt before I go. I am selling my house and want to use the profit to pay the debt.I have 2 ccs with MBNA (11k combined debt) and one with RBS (3,500). Does anyone know if cc companies are likely to accept a settlement offer?

I can afford to offer them about 80 % of the outstanding debt. Does any one have any experience of doing this or any advice/tips on how to negotate with the cc companies?

Thanks

  • You say "use the profit" from your house to pay the debt. But what about the rest of the proceeds? Or do you really mean surplus after a mortgage has been repaid?

I think they would expect repayment in full unless there have already been defaults.

You borrowed the money, why don't you pay it all back?
