Do HPI Checks Verify Against Insolvent Companies

My partners Dad has just bought a land rover for cash. He was given some business cards from the owner. We checked out the company with companies house and it appears the company has been declared insolvent. We are now concerned that the vehicle may not have been legally sold on. Does any anyone know if there is any way of checking if the car was owned by the company instead of an individual and if its owned by the company whether it was allowed to be sold on?

TIA
