I had the same experiences with a few window companies. Because I work from home it was easier to get quotes during the daytime as Mrs V is often helping at school or worshipping at the Church of Bluewater.

One guy I booked was from Crystal windows. When he arrived he asked where Mrs V was and I said at school. He then said that as we weren't both there he couldn't leave me a quote. Fine. I opened the door and told him not to bother calling back. If he'd given me the quote and I was happy I would have signed there and then.

We are going to treat our son to some new windows so that his house should be easier to sell in a couple of years.

We suggested he gets a few companies round to give him some quotes. We thought things might have changed since we went along this route. Apparently a company were at his house 3.1/2 hours this morning and started off at £17,000 and finally down to just under £6,000. We remember this sort of thing happening many years ago but I would like some feedback as to whether this is the norm when companies come round to your house. I expected them to be there about an hour.

He is quite upset and does not know in which direction to go now. We really don't know of anybody who has had any new windows lately who they could recommend.

Thanks for any feedback you can give.

We had the Betterview windows chap come round and measure up for our new windows. He quoted us £3600 to replace 4 windows, with Pilkinton K, in our semi. The windows were large, 3.5m x 1m and a small side window. After some haggling we got it down to £3200 and we didn't feel pressured at all to go with him and he quoted us, what we felt, a reasonable price. We didn't go with them in the end because my brother, who's a builder, did them and saved me the VAT so we got them for around £2700. Otherwise we'd have been happy to have used Betterview.
