1and1 are the cheapest domain name registration but not the cheapest hosting. If you are not too fazed by computers you can buy your domain name there, and buy hosting with someone like eukhost who are pretty good. Then you just change some settings on your domain name to "point" to your webhost's nameservers. I do this with my websites. I suppose it depends. If you only have the one, it's probably not worth it. I have a handful of websites and I buy one package at eukhost that means I can point 5 different domain names to it, so it's worth it for me.
If you want much fuller explanation let me know. Also eukhost are much more user friendly than 1and1 though 1and1 have improved. I've also used JustHosted who were very good but I don't know if they're still going.
I'm not on the affliate programme for any of these companies, just google for them and have a look.0 -
I'm with 1 and 1 for domain, no problems so far.
Previous webhosting was with Streamline.net.
AVOID like the plague! You only need to do a Google search to realise how many complaints this company has. Wish I'd checked them out first. They might have good offers and competitive pricing but the service is not there, when you try to cancel they will lie to you and in the end I had to involve trading standards and my bank to obtain a refund.
I'll keep watching this thread as I need new hosting and would rather go by recommendation than price comparison.
Best of luck in your venture.£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
I use Just Host (justhost.com) and find them pretty good. Unlimited space and bandwidth, and their customer service team is quite good too (whenever have had a problem, they've usually got back to me within an hour!).
I use GoDaddy for domains though, and just set the nameservers to suit.
Plus, if you're not happy giving credit/bank details to pay, you can use Paypal too!0 -
I've always used
http://www.magicomm.net/
They have been open since 1997, and I've had numerous hosting from them, so thats who I trust!
They are American but accept payments through paypal, and there plans start for about £4.50

For a web hosting company that has been around for over 12 years their web site is a bit sh_t.
The footer proudly boast "Copyright 2003 to 2009" and their client list proudly announces "Coming soon"
How soon is "Coming soon", it's been over 12 years!
12 years and they can't even boast about 1 client, not even you!0 -
Check out this forum:
www.webhostingtalk.com
Biggest discussion/review place on web hosting there is. Also if you've heard of a web host or considering a web host try typing their name in the search and seeing what others have said about them. If they've still got it theres also a Quote system to ask for quotes from various web hosts that frequent the site based on your needs. I found my current host based on a lot of good feedback on that forum and haven't had any trouble.0 -
For domain names use either 123-Reg or Domain Monster.
For hosting use either United Hosting (expensive but ultra reliable) or Heart Internet (cheap but not too bad reliability).

I personally use Domain Monster and United Hosting for my clients (I'm a web designer - shameless plug).
Not sure about 1&1 as I've never used them myself for anything but they seem very cheap?0 -
I use Streamline and have found them very good & easy to use.
Free domain name with selected packages.

I use xNetworks Hosting for hosting my blog.
The service is pretty good, reliable and the support is helpful too.
They offer hosting for only £1, and are donating some of the proceeds to Haiti.
