Photo print (block mount) "error"

Hi and thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer.

We recently got a large block mount poster made from a photo we supplied (digitally) at a local place.

Originally they quoted us £26.70 but when we went to pick it up it turned out they'd forgotten to include the actual print price in the quote (just quoted for the mount itself) and we needed to pay an extra £21 or something!! :P Funnily enough that's not what I'm writing about as we accepted that increase. I believe what they said was genuine and the price was very (ie too) cheap otherwise. This I think was already very reasonable of us.

The actual problem is that they have made this thing with a white border around. We didn't ask for it and it was never mentioned and we don't want it! As far as I can tell it's not normal for this to be done so I have no idea why they did it.

I've already been in there and she said "damn" when I told her about the border which implied that she found it bad that it had happened, but she didn't explicitly admit an error. She offered to trim the border off (I hope for free!) if we bring it in. But we've paid for an A2 block-mount and now we're going to up with something about 3cm smaller in each dimension :(

What do you think our rights would be here? At no time did we explicitly say "no border". On the order form there is no mention of a border either way, so that's not much help. However I don't believe that such a block-mount would normally come with a border without asking for it.

Any ideas? Worth chasing? Too pedantic? Any quasi-legal opinion?

It is unusual to print with a border nowadays. The only reason that I can think of is a cropping problem on the photo that you submitted. But if the border is an even size all around then it's not a cropping problem.

If you are not happy make a complaint and ask why the print was made with a border? and ask for it to be reprinted.
