housing issue

Thanks for all your replies. to make this make more sense to all i will post the first relevant bit that i posted on the benefits section.

I am after some advice please.
I have a four and three year old and have recently been taken quite ill, it all started with a cold that then turned to a chest infection, and trapped nerve in my side next to my boob, then the doctors saying it could be a trapped nerve, cracked rib or clot on my lung. and low oxygen level.

He prescribed me some tablets that the chemist dispenser said can make me wheezy. when i returned to the doctrs the next morning as he wanted to check my oxygen levels again as the night before he wanted to admit me to hospital but i could not leave my little girls he said i may also have asthma.

I have been taking 23 tablets a day for the last 3 weeks and no improvement as yet, i dont think they are helping but i am sure if i stopped taking them they probably are working. He then sent me for a chest x-ray i had this done this wens gone they said there is nothing of major concern that they would like to amit me for but it will be sent to the radiologist and results sent back to my doctors who i have an appointment with this following wens.

Ontop of this i am constantly tired my back constantly hurts have headaches all the time and my bones and muscles seem to always be aching and am very emotional all before this cold i have been fine now i feel 26 going on 2000000.

I am finding my day to day usual activities hard even walking my four year old to school is aggony. let alone dressing bathing feeding me and the girls.

Now since our split me and my ex have remained amicable for the sake of the childeren as i would never use my little girls against him as he is a great dad. He works but has offered to try and help out with my daily tasks, shopping, helping with the girls ect.

I am on housing benefit and would not want him to contribute in anyway just the help would be great when he is not at work. for help like getting the shopping done and up the stairs i live in a 2 bed first floor flat.

I plan to speak to the authorities regarding this ie housing benefit, income support ect. But my question is do you think they would allow him to sleep on the sofa or in the girls room.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

sorry if its in the wrong forum
I have bumped this up to the top as i am now after more advice please.

I will start from the begining, basicaly i had an 8 foot marine tank in my flat (frontroom), housing !!! came out and wanted surveyors to check it was all safe, they came out said it was all safe structualy ect, and i could keep the tank as long as i had adequate insurance, ok insurance brought.

In my bedroom other end of the flat kids knocked over the water change for the tank lost about a mugs worth of water, lady below reported it !!! came out and said tank had to go and i would have to pay all cost of damage to the flat below and it had ruined all of her possesions. tank rid of never received a bill for work.

Then get a knock at the door water leaking from bathroom into her bathroom repair man said there was a drip from the pipes repaired it off he went then next day came back she had repoted it again this time saying everytime she has a bath or shower i get flooded, i asked him if it was any worse down there he said no looked at my end and said it was all fine this was on a thursday now did not have a shower friday morning was surprissed by being taken to holland carnival so noone was in my property from friday am till sunday pm when i got back was too tired for shower or bath thought i had one at the hotel thismorning i will have one tommorow.

Mon morning comes knock at the door she reported a leak again. now unless fairys let them selfs in had a shower and did not tidy up my flat for the cheek of using my shower then lady below is lying as he checked it again no leak.

Then a few months later two work men trun up search the flat high and lpw saying she has reported a leak again nothing found.

The kids dad has just built them new princess beds and i had my housing !!! come out the other day saying they have had noise complaints, now the old lady below me has had a thing against me since i did not report my toilet overflow pipe dripping into her garden by 9am in the morning (she only told me 9pm the night before)

The housing !!! said last time they came out noise was ok till 9:30pm but people above me have childeren so was trying to stop by 8:30 it was only screwing in screws with a cordless drill.

Well 8:30 one night the gent above started banging the floor so there dad stopped. the !!! said it has been going on weeks wich is a lie as he had done there beds within a week.

They have also now asked for plannign permission for my bathroom and kitchen although they saw photos 2 years ago and said it was ok.

They have also asked that i get planning permission for the girls beds, the beds are free standing not attached to the wall or anything and i can not see what difference these beds would be to say bunk beds brought from a shop.

Also he put some led lights on there celing to make it like a star lit sky they are plugged into a normal socket like they would be on a christmas tree, but the housing !!! now want a certified electricians report to say it is ok.

I also asked what i need to do to speed up getting a moove to a better suited property i was on the list for 6 years then was offered this flat, have been here nearly 4 years and have been on the transfer list since then.

Due to the unknown illness i have at the moment i can not get anything up the stairs barely myself and that takes time its only 13 steps and not normaly a problem but it is at the momnet. I was told to get proof from my doctors for medical and they will put that on my application.

The next day i had an appointment with my gp and asked him he said that the housing !!! have to request it from him, so i phone them and they say no we would never request it you have to do it.

also she is telling people lies about me she has a dog and walks it over the feilds by me and my friends mum has told me all what she has said about me as she talks to her not realising it was me lady below was going on about, i have asked her if she would write me a letter for friday to show the mp.

I feel like i am being victimised and have made an appointment to see my local mp and am thinking about taking the bed story to the papers, what do you think am i being over emotional because of all the tablets i need an outsiders point of veiw please.

    In short,

You live with your children in a flat and the rent is paid by HB.

You are suffering ill health so the kids father comes around and helps.

Neighbours have complained about noise and water leaks and are talking about you; unjustified you say.

You are waiting on a transfer list to get a better property, what can you do?

I think you are being sensitive and you are unlikely to get a transfer because you have a 2 bed property which is sufficient size for your needs. I doubt a temporary difficulty with stairs is likely to lead to a new home, unless your GP thinks that it will be long term and lead to you being unable to cope with stairs as opposed to make you slow.

  • Also claiming benefits as a single-parent household and then having your ex-partner staying overnight could very well lead to your troublesome downstairs neighbour having even more fuel for the fire of harassing you. I believe that the rules are that if you have someone staying over three nights a week then they are considered to be co-habiting and your benefits would be reduced. Two nights are borderline but could provide plenty of scope for misinterpretation. Don't even think of it right now!

Who do you think is victimising you, the housing association?? Are you getting permission in writing for the changes you are making to the property?

why would anyone need planning permisson to build a bed ????

I think it's the kitchen and bathroom that's at issue. I believe that the OP is somehow being labelled as a troublesome tenant so now they're coming down on her like a ton of bricks. I mean, who would insist on an electrician coming out to verify a string of fairy-lights plugged in at the wall-socket?

Yes the housing association for asking me to apply for planning permission for the beds and for the kitchen and bathroom that they have seen before and after photos 2 years ago.

The beds are new. freestanding and i would say the size of a bunk bed.

    Thanks for your comments.

That is why i put the post up un the benefits section re kids dad staying, as i am seriously in that much pain i am pretty useless at the moment and do not want any wrong ideas being got.

He is the father of my kids and a good one just because me and him did not work out i would never use his kids as a weapon, he is happily engaged to his new girlfriend now anyway.

    Thanks for your advice

That was one of the final things that was making me feel like the housing !!! was out to get me as whats the difference from buying them from a shop and putting them up or building them ????

Yes they have although they saw before and after photos 2 yrs ago and said it was all ok the only changes in the bathroom are that i have tiled the loo in and it has a push button flush and have a vanity unit sink so have blocked in the sink.

kithchen changes are handmade pine cupboards and tiled worktop and extra bit of sideboard fitted.
