Forget about Office 2007. You can increase the RAM to 192 MB with a module of PC100 128 MB RAM(Part No. KTT-SO100/128), install a Wireless Card and add some flavour of Linux that may contain Open Office.

  • Its really old and might just not be worth the time and trouble. Then you will be disappointed with the lack of any experience or feeling for it. Your DH has just got you spending monies you may not have or want to spend.

Anyway the way forward may be to visit a computer show near you for scrap parts really cheap. google british computer fairs

    RAM £7.49

Your luck with Wireless Cards will vary. Best to get educated. :)http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ndiswrapper/index.php?mediawiki/index.php/List

It's probably not worth spending the money on the Office 2007 licence for the experience you're going to get on such an old machine to be honest, probably best to find a very light flavour of Linux with Open Office.
  • I think i might have to abandon the idea and look for a cheap one on e-bay.
thanks for your replies though x

    You are right bin it.
Big Pockets often have ex company laptops for reasonable money. I'd avoid Fleebay myself.

Even though it would only cost you £20 for the upgrades, the performance will be relatively poor. Just good for general surfing and word processing.

I would do it just for the fun of it. But then, I'm like that.

    Specs here

I would run something like Puppy Linux on the refurb.
