    make sure it's a c series, black.

There will be a logo on the moulded plastic front draw, it will either say CD, CD/RW, DVDrom, DVD R/W or just pull the bay out, and look at the writing inside

See my edited post about about cleaning up the software

Just because the operating system doesn't see it as a DVD drive, doesn't mean its not a dvd drive.

For help on drivers for your dell go to http://support.euro.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

and enter your lappy details and service tag number.
it should then tell you what drivers to down load.
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.
  • If your connected to the internet just go to start>computer and then right click and select properties, then choose device manager you will then find CD/DVD drive, click the little + next to this and right click on your CD drive and choose update driver. Also you could buy a new version of windows XP or Vista (depending on what your laptop can handle) once you have installed a fresh copy of this your computer will be so much faster (be sware though that this will wipe everything from the computer memory so make a copy of pictures, music etc on a CD)
