Things that go bump in the night...

  • Thinking about the wireless doorbell; we had a baby monitor which plugged into the wall sockets. A couple of times out of the blue I heard a clock chiming loudly on it (ding dong, ding dong; ding dong, ding dong) as clear as anything even though we didn't have a chiming clock in the house. I looked all over to see if we'd somehow aquired one but in the end I put it down to the monitor picking up someone else's doorbell.

Also a while ago on Doc Martin someone was complaining of being woke up by loud bangs in the night even though no one else in the house heard them. He said it was something like 'exploding head syndrome'.

It's happened to me a few times, I heard the door bell ring very loud, and it woke me up and I've even got up to answer the door....I'm 32, and have no hearing problems.
Soon after each "episode", I'd realise that had been a dream. Very very realistic though! I think it's caused by being stressed in my case. I swear I'm not going potty either! lol

I'd set up a cheap CCTV system at her door, just to give her peace of mind, and hope it's nothing more sinister than dreams.
  • My Nan lived in a terrace straight on to the pavement & fairly often drunk idiots would ring her doorbell, it was very unsettling for her, why they picked on her house i'll never know, but whose to say they didn't pick on another 10 houses down her road.
It's a shame there aren't any security cameras, especially somewhere that is specifically for the elderly - maybe this is something that should be brought up with the housing association??

Using the central locking on my car periodically sets off my mum's door bell, whether you park on the drive or the street!

It happens with me too, though strangely enough the tune my doorbell plays when someone is using their car 'zapper' is completely different to the normal ding-dong ring I've got it set on. Imagine having to listen to 'She'll be coming round the mountain' every time my neighbours go to work!:rotfl:

:rotfl: And you'd trust a medical condition to be correctly diagnosed by Doc Martin? :rotfl:

dont do that! if there was an emergency and she needed to be evacuated they would have to break her door down!

I dont have a door bell, Im fairly certain people would bang on the door before breaking it down to get my attention! :)

Oh you may scoff, but I looked it up at the time and it's a proper condition.
  • slightly off topic but still funny...

my grandad and great aunt went on one of those old peoples holidays. my aunt spent the first few days complaining about the people in the next room having the radio on. she made a huge fuss about it after the third night. upon inspection of the room by the hotel manager it was discovered that she had been messing with the alarm clock which was also a radio and the radio had been playing on low volume the whole time - she never lived it down and had to apologise to the occupants of the adjoining rooms :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:

Well thank you, I have suffered from the feeling that my head's going to explode, which isn't quite the same thing, I find!

I agree. If there was a fire, she may not hear anyone knocking on the door, but a doorbell being rung over and over again obviously wakes her up.

Would you be able to set up a webcam for a week or so, to see who it is, or, if it's real?

I do think this could all be in her mind though, as having to go past other people's doors doesn't with the actions of a reckless, bored teenager, or an opportunist. It would suggest that it was someone who knew her and was purposely trying to harrass her. And they would have to know where she lived etc. As you've stated that most of the people she knows live far away, it doesn't seem likely.
