Hi all. This might sound like a daft question but I am new to this modern central heating stuff!! My water is off at the moment due to a burst pipe down the road. Is it ok to run the c.h. which is radiators from a combi boiler. I would hate to blow it up as its only just been installed.

A combi is a sealed system, it's only connected to the mains when you open the valve on the filling loop. So as long as the system has adequate pressure it should work fine on the CH side. However you won't be able to repressurise it until the mains supply is restored. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks macman. I shall turn it back on as it getting pretty chilly here in Yorkshire. Snow is falling thick and fast!0

Hi
When the water is turned back on run the kitchen sink tap for a while until all the air and any bits of muck have been washed through. This will stop the filter in the boiler getting blocked. If you can turn the boiler h/w stat down as low as possible until the water runs air free. Then turn back up. You could say the same about the wc ballvalve as well but that's not so easy to tie up now with the fixed lid cisterns.

thankyou canucklehead. Will run it all through as soon as it comes back on. Water board say the bad weather is hampering repairs. Have had to use half a bottle of red wine to put tonights dinner in the slow cooker and seeing as I can't make a coffee I might have to quench my thirst with the left overs:j0

Have they not handed out bottled water for drinking/cooking? That's very poor.0
