Hotels in Edinburgh

I am looking for a hotel for a 3 night stay in June.
We are going with another couple who are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.
I've never been to Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter
!) so any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Ideally we would like somewhere quite central and leisure facilities would be nice as we are looking forward to a nice relaxing break away from the kids.
TIA.

I live near Edinburgh but stayed over before Christmas at a MacDonald Hotel using their own site and an advance purchase rate for Bed and Breakfast.
They have leisure facilities and are on Charlotte Square just behind Princes Street.
Breakfast was buffet style and fabulous.

Hope this helps

The Holiday Inn Express at Leith is nice - a hop on the bus to Princes Street, has car parking if you need it, close to Ocean Terminal, and lots of wee interesting cafes/pubs/restaurants and shops, and near the water!
I have stayed there a couple of times and couldn't fault it.
There is a Malmaison in Leith - maybe worth looking for offers?
There are also Apex/Ibis/Travel Inn/ etc all fairly central. Also try Hotel Connexions, they sometimes do good deals.
I love Edinburgh, went to Uni there so lived in Leith for 4 years, it broke my heart a wee bit to leave :-(0 -
I stayed at the Apex Waterloo last weekend and it was great, within walking distance of most things and a spa too. Resturant was good and so was the breakfast. Room was of a high standard.
Paid £99.00 for the night for a suite with full breakfast for two.light bulb moment: 30.08.08!!0 -

I've looked at this one already and it looks lovely, so its on the list. If we pay in advance it's coming out at £345 per room for the 3 nights or £384 to include breakfast.
I've just opened all the other links to have a look - thanks everyone!:beer:0 -
We stayed at The Bank last year and were very impressed.

I can highly recommend the Radisson Blu hotel (Old Crown Plaza)
The location is fab-right on the royal mile.
It also has a gym, sauna, swimming pool, and sauna.
We got a good deal on late rooms.
Rates tend to vary, depending on the time of the year we paid about £70.00 per room, per night. However this was a late deal.
The Point Hotel is also very nice, it is close to Princes Street.
The rooms are very nice, and it has a lovely bar and restraunt.
Again rates vary we paid £60.00 on booking.com.
Apex International is also very nice, but wouldn't recommend if you are staying over the weekend.
Its very noisy as its on the grassmarket!
If you prefer Bed and Breakfasts I can recommend two in Edinburgh

We have stayed here before, they are a lovely family who really make you feel at home. The rates are very good, and rooms are very nice. Very nice breakfasts, and more of a personal touch. It is not far from the centre.
Also highly recommend http://www.visitabercorn.com/
The guest house is in Portobello near to the beach, but on a good bus route for Edinburgh.
Angela and family are very welcoming, and the house is beautiful.
We have also stayed at Ramada Jarvis Princes st, good location-but they messed our booking up.
Shandwick Hotel, at the end of princes st, also very nice, good rates.
Finally

Nice guest house, out of town, but good location for Leith, very good rates.
I think I ought to look at moving to Edinburgh the amount of times I've been.
Hope you have a wonderful time.0 -
I've stayed at the Ramada Jarvis on Princes street, perfect location, and a fantastic breakfast in the dining room overlooking the castle...0
