Pine doors - splitting - how to fix?

Hi-ya

We have some old pine doors (looks like they were dipped at one time to strip off paint as they're warped slightly).

We love them but some have developed bad cracks/splits in the wood. Is there anything we can do to prevent further cracks/splits?

Also how best to repair the existing ones without it looking terribly bodged.

We also have a much newer looks line pine front door which has just developed a small horizontal split - very annoying as we love the door!!

Many thanks for any tips on this.

all depends where the splits are. if by the edges, then drilling holes and filling with a glued dowel, will stop it. they need to be clamped whilst the glue sets.
splits in the middle maybe helped by injecting glue into the crack, and clamping.
you may need to use epoxy resin rather than normal wood glue.
    Get some gorm.
  • The timber tends to split in response to sudden or regular changes in air temperature and humidity. It will be unpredictable as to how much further it will split or if cracks will close again.

Suitable coatings will help control movement in the timber, or if you are aware of sudden or uneven changes to heating patterns or such like, then deal with those

Also use a suitable flexible filler, as if the cracks close slightly, the filler will be squeezed out
