Removing picture backgrounds

Can someone help me with this - I want to get rid of all the background in my pictures so it is just white. Is there an easy way to do this?

I have tried drawing around the image I want to keep with the mouse but it's just useless.

Is there a simple way without having to buy any expensive programs etc.

  • You have the right idea, but probably the wrong program. Adobe Photoshop can do this very well, but it's not cheap and is contrary to your original request. You may have trouble with this one unless you can control your mouse accurately.

    Thanks!

What about one of those Tablet thingies (with a pen)?

Is there really no other way than buying something like Adobe? Can I buy elements of it as I really would find it hard learning everything apart from the time element. I just want to do this one thing.

I use photobucket and have tried their tools to do the job but it leaves great chunks of colour all over.
  • I haven't used the tablets, but would imagine it not to be so easy since they don't have a screen. The ones that do will probably be more exensive than photoshop.

The Gimp will do what you want. Simple? You'll have to judge that.

    Have you tried this?

It is free and one of the highest rated photo edited programs around :)

The GIMP is good but in its native format it can be a little difficult to get to grips with as a novice. I would suggest, instead, the GIMPshop variant which has a far easier GUI modelled on Paintshop. Its free as well You can download it here - Go for the GIMPShop 2.2.4 option (assuming you're using Windows).
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(
