how safe am i sending to a buyers work address when it is not confirmed?

Hi i have been dealing with a buyer, he was at first wanting to deal outside ebay and get the item cheaper. I made him an offer which he didnt reply to, this was after he was emailing me loads of questions about the Iphone which i answered and feel i helped him out loads. So i thought he had lost interest or just found a cheaper one. Fair enough.

However he sniped the phone in the last second. I emailed him and asked how he wanted to do it. He chose to deal through ebay, again fine. however he now wants me to send the item to his work, which is not confirmed. (he works at dyson)

I am not keen at all as i dont really like the way he has played it all the way through and he doesnt have an awful lot of feedback either.

If i did send it to his work address would i be covered at all by paypal? i have had a look on their site and it seems unclear.

Reading back to myself what i have written the answer seems clear.
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

If its a confirmed address in paypal doesn't matter anymore. Its if it says its OK to send and you are eligible for seller protection. Look under details of the transaction and if the address is there and it says its ok to send it is.

like cyberbob said as long as the address is on the paypal transaction page then it is ok to send, and i would send it by special delivery as well.

You should send it to the address that comes up on the transaction and if that differs from the one hes asking you to send it to tell him you cant do that because otherwise, you wont be protected.

You can set up a gift address. But you need to refund the payment first then they add the address and it will be usable for that transaction when they repay
  • I know you didn't in the end but never ever deal outside ebay, it is against their rules and you could get 'struck off'.

As the others said, as long as the address given is the one he has set up to receive parcels too it shouldn't be a problem.

At least Dyson is a recognisable firm not Joe Bloggs Ltd, flat 6, above the chippy...;)
  • Make sure you use the appropriate postage method - probably Special Delivery.

Getting stuck off from ebay for and saving £50 in fee's sounds like a goer for me :) double bonus...

guy's the address he has asked me to send to is not his confirmed or even on his paypal he has asked by email.

the reason i mentioned the dealing outside ebay is that i feel he has chossn to deal inside ebay as he will be protected. which is fine. he would be for non recipt even if we didnt. but no whe is asking me to send to another address i am thinking he may have asked for another reason.

I am going to email him and let him know that i cannot do that and it will have to be sent to his home address.

Bit in bold - No, do not send to the address he has asked you to for any reason, no matter how much he begs or pleads, don't!!

If he wants it sent to that address tell him he needs to set it up as a gift address on paypal and if that is the case you will need to refund him so he can pay again and choose that address inside paypal:)

    Hope this helps.

When i have been asked before to send to an address that wasn't on the paypal transaction page i usually message them and tell them if they want me to send it to another address then i will have to refund them and they will have to buy again and add the new address on their paypal or otherwise i am not covered under seller protection.
  • no, dont send to an uncomfirmed address or one that doesnt show up in paypal.

also if anyone contacts you asking you to complete the transaction outside of ebay..you can report them to ebay...and dont ever carry out a transaction outside of ebay as ebay can have you for fee avoidance.
