Virgin Media problem. Any help??

We switched from Sky(TV) and Talk Talk(Phone and net) to Virgin for all three to get one bill and becasue Sky couldn't give us phone and BB unless we changed back to BT first apparently.
Anyway, we were told by Virgin not to cancel Sky or TalkTalk as they would contact them so the service from them would end the day Virgin started. Lo and behold, two weeks into having Virgin we get bills from Sky and TalkTalk as I cancelled the DD's. They hadn't been cancelled and to pay the fees and the usage until they could disconnect us has cost us £50. Virgin are saying they cannot offer us any compensation as we didn't pay them the £50. Any ideas where to go with this? We're awaiting a phone call off the line manager as he was mysteriously unavailable when the phone monkey couldn't do anything.
