Long term sunny winter stay, within EU?

You are quite right.
I had to go and buy a good stout pair of shoes with a good tread on them because my normal summer type footwear was hopeless. I had to throw away my ruined summer shoes. I wore the stout pair on the way back so it didn't interfere with my 10k luggage weight allowance.0 -
Try Madeira. Politically it's part of Portugal; in winter it has a lovely, mild mid-ocean climate.Free the dunston one next time too.0

The Canaries and Madeira can be quite cool in the winter and the winds can be strong. Winter weather there is more like a fairly ordinary summer day in the UK although usually more consistently fine weather.0

If your Dad wants winter warmth within the EU there's really only Madeira or the Canaries. Have a look on Tripadvisor to narrow down the options or to ask a few questions.0
