Hi,
My Mum recently won her appeal for ESA (Support group) and gets £90ish a week on this.
My Dad works full time (37hrs per week) and earns approx £30k.
Will they be able to claim the mortgage interest scheme payments now that my Mum gets ESA? They have a large amount of CC debt and are with the CCCS and the money coming in hardly covers the mortgage interest payment, CCCS repayment and living costs.
I've not had a chance to read the letter she got yet but it mentioned something about laiming somnething towards council tax as well - what benefit would that be and considering their circumstance is that worth going for?
Appreciate any advice you can offer, I'm just trying to get them to apply for whatever they are entitled to in the the hope that it helps.
Thanks

I don't think they can expect the tax payer to pay your parents cc debts.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

No, they wont be able to claim anything at all.
Not on nearly £35K per annum household income.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
one wonders how anyone can even suspect that the op parents would be entitled any additional benefits?0

Sorry, I didn't know hence why I asked - parents never claimed anything before and being new to the benefits system I thought I'd ask the question here.
No offence intended; I guess having read countless stories in the paper about people abusing the benefits system who have never even paid anything into the system I thought that there might be more that they would be entitled to that's all.0 -
There is no harm in asking he question.
However, their income is too high for means-tested Benefits such as the mortgage scheme and Council Tax and the Government will not pay their debts.
Sorry the answer is not more positive.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
