Mind and print off your post so next time you take your own advice and it'll save you accusing someone of a "Scam".

The weekend plan is the cheapest plan available from BT, that is unless you qualify for BT Basic, which I do not think you do as you use another company for calls.

There is no charge for BT's Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan. It is included in the charge for line rental (£11.54/month if you pay by DD and have opted for paper-free billing).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    I am pleased to report>

I have had a phone call from Jim Gallagher @ BT customer services. He has agreed to refund the £10.77 which was charged in error and appologised for my inconvenience.

  • If its not a scam i'll eat my hat.
We have had our calls with another provider for at least 18-24 months now and have never had any caller display charges on our bill. It is not a feature that we have ever used or wish to use.
Suddenly this quarter comes round our phone starts displaying callers numbers and a surprise £7.77 is slapped onto our bill for low usage.
We called and questioned it with BT, they apologised and said yeah no problem they will refund it on our bill but me being sceptical couldn't see this on our online account so decided to double check with them!
I did the online contact form to BT and after a week received a call back, they quoted detaqils about the minimum of 6 calls etc which was news to us given that we never asked for caller id and they said they can't refund the charges but will cancel going forward (even though I already had it confirmed i'd get a refund)
So I called BT again and spoke to a third person who has again confirmed yes no problem it will be credited on our next bill - call me doubly sceptical but I am just in the process of trying to get written confirmation out of them via email so we will see.
I would urge all customers who have had these charges forced on them without authority to definitely ask for your money back - how many customers are they slapping this charge on without authorisation! Not in line with industry regulations surely.
(e.g. 1 million customers * £7.77 per quarter = £30million annual profit for BT for doing ?what?)
  • success, BT have emailed me to confirm they will be refunding the charges and that caller display has been removed from my account, hence proving they were wrong to charge it in the first place!
Note: a recent mailer off them even confirms in the terms and conditions that 'caller-display' is an 'opt-in' add on to your account. Hence they cannot just add it without consent!
I suggest everyone else who has fallen victim to this scam insist on removal of the unauthorised services and full refunds for these charges!
