Amsterdam and Paris Hostels: any reviews?

After fretting over finances, practicality has taken over and my friend and I have booked accomodation in two hostels, one in Amsterdam, the other in Paris. Has anyone stayed at the City Shelter in Amsterdam or the BVJ Hostel in the Latin Quarter, Paris? I still have time to find and book another place, but these two total at about 50 euros per night, for the both of us, with breakfast! Logically, I know a bed is just to rest my head, and both places seem clean and safe enough. We are 2 ladies creaping up in our 30's, but would rather have money for good food and fun, staying cheap in a central location.
SO, I am just wondering, have any MSE'ers have had any experience with either of these places?
Thanks!
