CCP Protection payments

I was quoted £29 (introductory offer) in October 2009 for three years CCP payment protection starting on 28/01/2010 to be taken by direct debit on 28/01/2010. I still have a copy of the quote.
On 20/01/2010 CPP took £52 by direct debit from my account. However I only noticed this today 20/02/2010 when my bank statement arrived.
I called CPP to ask why they had increased the fee and they stated that the policy has been upgraded to include additional premium cover. However I did not recieve a letter explaining this or agree to this! So I asked for my money back. CPP then stated that because 14 days had elapsed since the cover started I was not entitled to my money back.
Can CPP legally increase my premium without notification or consent and then take additional funds directly from my account without my agreement?
Thanks for your advice
Steve

No they cannot.
If the company will not refund then dispute the transaction with the lender.0 -
I wrote this out of spite, whether the information is truthful it is still wrong!0

They did the same to me, twice on different occasions they have told me that they have written to me to tell me of intention to take money out and neither time have i recieved anything! using this forum has made things a little bit clearer now and im making official complaints to the fsa, and watch dog, because complaining to cpp is like banging your head against a brick wall....0

I've just had the same on an activation call with a Santander card. They answered as "CPP Chesterfield". The sales technique was dreadful and dishonest - designed to frighten the user.
I pointed out that I already have Sentinel Gold protection, but the girl concentrated on Identity Theft with a number of dubious assertions:
- the census is now on-line and anyone can find all the info they need to open an account in my name
- that I am legally responsible for an account opened in my name
- that I would have to prove that I didn't open the account
I pointed out that there are errors in each of these statements, but she wouldn't have it. In the end, she wouldn't give up so I told her that I was terminating the call. She then asked me for my email address - that on top of already having full access to all my security details! This is very shoddy and reflects badly on Santander. I have made a formal complaint to Santander.4kWp, Panels: 16 Hyundai HIS250MG, Inverter: SMA Sunny Boy 4000TLLocation: Bedford, Roof: South East facing, 20 degree pitch20kWh Pylontech US5000 batteries, Lux AC inverter,Skoda Enyaq iV80, TADO Central Heating control0 -
I purchased a Santander credit card recently and when I called to activate it I was bull-dozed by the agent who presumably worked for CPP into buying an Identity Protection Policy, with a plan which they said was exclusive to Santander with CPP. I cancelled it on receiving the policy documents, as I felt it did not justify the premium and I did not really need it despite the scaremongering; but discovered to my horror just a few days ago, that they had also bought a policy on my behalf for my brother-in-law next door and deducted the amount from my credit card, without my permission or knowledge, or him wanting it for that matter!
Be very careful with these agents, clearly under pressure from Santander and CPP to sell these policies now that they can no longer sell PPIs in the same way.0
