Money Taken from bank after re-using card details.

Sorry if this appears in the wrong section but it is a mixture of two different things.

Last year my wife made a payment to a clothing company using her visa debit card linked to our bank account, and all seemed well, until a week ago, when, they have decided to take some more money using her card details but without her permission. Now I know they couldnt have had her permission as she has been in hospital for the past 6 weeks and then we were away in Paris when the money was debited from our account.

We have taken this up with our bank who are sending the relevant forms to dispute the payment and have cancelled her card, but surely this taking of money without permission is illegal??

Should we be looking at making a complaint to other people (Police, Financial Authorities??)

Many thanks.

    Check your statements!

It is possible, the payment last year was never taken, and they only call it in now, somewhat belated.
    This does happen occasionally.

If this is not the case, contact the company; it might be a simple mistake. No need to call for the heavies at this point.

Check the OP! They took "more" money.. and it was only taken last week.

As for criminal sanctions - well... it could indeed be a fraud, but the burden of proof is quite high. Unless you have specific information that the merchant is operating fraudulently then I wouldn't go this route.

All I say, check the statements to make sure it was actually paid.

OP wouldn’t be the first poster here to forget, that although a debit card payment appeared on the ‘available balance’, it was never properly charged and fell off after five days or so.

    OK, point taken.
  • ............And if the first payment was an initial payment with a balance payment to be taken later?????????
