Can I Just Cancel my House Insurance

Hi Iam paying 24.00 per month for contents insurance with Tesco - just done a search for cheaper insurance and can get it for 7.00 a month - can I just cancel my policy with Tesco its not due for renewal until Jan next year or will they make me pay up the full years money

You are not comparing like for like with that £7 and £24 premium. Whilst I know Tesco are not the cheapest they are certainly not at the expensive end.

You can switch off your own back in mid term but you need to be aware that the dates in the month may leave you uncovered if you are not careful. You may find that phoning Tesco and reducing the cover to the same level as the alternative policy is the better option.

They can't make you pay the full amount unless you have had a claim with them, in which case, they can.


They will more than likely charge you a cancellation fee and maybe short term rates (see this post for a break down of these), although this is not very common.
