Boiler staying on

I have a vailant boiler, which is situated in the loft. Woke up this morning & realised heating was still going. I switched it off at the timer controll box & turned down the thermostat to zero but it looks like it is still going. Any idea what the problem is? I am off to work soon so will log on later if any questions want answering.
if i had known then what i know now

  • If its in the attic and its cold its more than likely the frost protection turning the boiler on to stop it freezing.

You need to tell us which model of Vaillant this is.

If it is a system boiler (600) series, then it could be a motorised zone valve that is broken and stuck on.

I had a new boiler 18 months ago - its now in an extension shed attached to the house. Last winter it only came on when it was scheduled to - this year the frost protection on it has been switching it on during the night , early morning and sometimes during the day. BG say this is what its supposed to do when its very cold. It only runs for around 5 minutes or so though - if its on all the time it neds checking over.

  • i have a similar problem with my biasi - if i try using the timer clock i keep getting the red light. so now i am stuck with the heating on constant low :(. got to get someone in to look at it for me as have no idea what could be wrong.

on the plus side i guess that at least i am not freezing.

i also think that the problem with yours is that it is on frost protect mode. if i were you i would get it checked out.

i found my boiler man by phoning biasi and getting them to recommend - he has been on their training courses and carries common parts in his van. he is a little more expensive but it is worth it because he gets the job done...
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:

Found this which may help: http://www.imeasure.org.uk/carbontalk/index.php/topic,76.0.html
It seems that some boilers can be set up to keep the heat exchanger warm so that hot water is available at the taps sooner. This can probably be switched off which might help. Boilers should be installed in the heated evnvelope of the house if possible to prevent this sort of thing happening. If this isn't possible build a cupboard around it to keep it warm.
