I'm not impressed either - currently searching for somewhere better - all I want is a current account at the same place as an instant access savings account that pays 2% or so - not a lot to ask, but I can't find one! :(

I've been with them for years and think they are great. Nice, polite people who answer the phone quickly and know what they are talking about. I wouldn't go back to Barclays if you paid me.

I opened a cash e-ISA with First Direct a few days ago. Received a letter today asking me to call in order to set up my security details.

Having never called them before, I was very impressed with their service (even when they asked for my postcode at the start of the call!!) Phone was answered within 15 seconds without any horrible automated recordings to listen to. First person was helpful, but put me through to someone else who went through all the security questions with me and then sorted me out with some internet banking details.

Next test is to see how quickly they manage my ISA transfer!

Sure, but these two points are exactly the issues that FD have failed on in my two experiences of dealing with them

I've been with them since 1994 and have never had anyone who was rude. Maybe your expectations are unreasonable.

I joined FD just after Xmas and i am really, really impressed with the service i have recieved.

I like the fact that when i call, i am answered quickly and by somebody with English as their first language.... very un-pc i know.

I hate having to go through automated phone systems, to only end up having to repeat the details entered when you eventually get through to a real person.

FD will be keeping my £100 move away bonus, i have no intention of moving.

Christ who sh*t in your coffee this morning?

Was wondering what the funny taste was... I thought it was the milk that was off. :D

Re-reading my post, it does appear harshly worded.

The reason I dislike people automatically using my first name is I don't actually like it and friends/family etc use a contraction of it which I much prefer. I wouldn't be happy with friends and family using my 'real' first name, and I feel that when you're doing business they should ask how you would like to be addressed rather than assume it's OK to use a first name.

I actually account handle business to business transactions on a daily basis and because of the relationship I have with my customers we're on first name terms (although they use the contraction of my name). I don't have a 'relationship' with the people working in a call centre and therefore I don't feel comfortable dealing with them on first name terms.

And if you work or O2 or Egg, it could possibly have been me who objected.

  • When Kaufphing Edge had a call centre I rang them a few times and it was all very friendly and greeted me like a long long customer or friend.

However when they went into administration and the advisors knew their fate was sealed it was very different story. I remember ringing to find out about my savings and the person answered the phone with the words
    Yes what do you want.

I thought how fickle and false these chicken factories are.

The more I hear about First Direct, even their complaints, the more I want to join them.

If the worst complaint that they have about them is that a person asks you for your postcode rather than a machine, I think they are doing okay :)
