Cheap free-range eggs?

Sainsburys basics eggs are sometimes free range too (despite the box saying barn eggs) - Just check to see if they are labelled 1.

Hm well this rather contradicts the statement in the original post that ALL Aldi and Lidl eggs are Free Range

Tesco have 9 free range eggs for £1.35 at the moment. Online and instore

I looked at the Aldi eggs this week and the ones the OP is talking about were from caged eggs.

You only get what you pay for - if you want really cheap eggs from a supermarket you will get eggs from caged hens.

I buy eggs from a neighbour in our lane - I can see the chickens roaming around the field from my window. They are fed an organic diet and I pay £1 for 6. I am very lucky.

It works the other way too, sometimes you can pay top prices for free range eggs and get eggs from caged chickens.

Asda have fifteen or eighteen packs of free range eggs in stock at £2 to £3 (around 17p per egg): they come in plastic boxes and are often on the end of an aisle not by the other eggs. These packs regularly come onto offer, the last twice two for £3 which makes them 10p per egg if you have a friend, relative or colleague to split the offer with. Sometimes the 'two for' offer also contains milk, eggs or ham if you can't shift the other fifteen eggs.
