BritisH Gas

Options
My daughter has had her own flat for couple of years slept over night,
but could not afford to use Gas and Electric she showered and had her meals with us. I had to go to Flat the other day because somebody was coming to cap the Gas because she could not afford to pay the Gas when the gentlemen checked on the Gas meter he said it had already been removed, i picked up her mail and there was a letter from British Gas demanding £292. I phoned them and They said there was two charges one of £14 and one of £50 because the last Bill she paid was March 2008 I asked them when was the Meter removed Nov 2009.
Now this bit help on Britsh Gas said in one Breath that had got a court order to enter the Flat next breath Daughter gave them permission spoke to them again today they stated that got Court order i asked our they got into her flat they said locksmith but the keys still fit lock.
Was they breaking the law, plus i got out of them my daughter owes them for 102 units of Gas. first sorry for making long winded, But can somebody if British Gas can do this when there was nobody in the flat when they turn up.
Thanks in Advance.

If they've gone as far as getting a court order allowing them access to remove the meter then yes they can can.

Sorry I dont understand, did she not realise the meter had already been removed or did she just not tell you? I just find it strange that you went round there to let someone in to do something that had been done 3 months ago. If someone had removed my gas meter 3 months ago I would have noticed, whether I was there or not

For a warrant to be granted she must have known it was going to happen, there would have been bills/letters etc.

Sorry but if she cant afford to pay a bill of £292 that sounds like it built up over 20 months (from March 2008 to november last year) then maybe she shouldnt have her own flat? That would only be about £15 a month she would have had to pay.

What is she doing about all the other bills if she cant afford to pay £15 a month for the energy?

Sorry if that sounds harsh but you might want to find out what shes been up to otherwise she may have some even bigger debts building up.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
