insurance claim-but car has a problem
My car has been whacked whilst parked up. Im fuilly comp with a low excess and protected no claims. The car isnt worth a huge amount - so woyuld probably be written off if I claim.
The problem is the car has a gearbox problem - if I do claim-will the insurance company discover the fault and will this affect the claim?
I know some might say claim and see - but if its likely to be discovered I dont want the hassle or have to go thru the aggro of claiming if its pointless.
Its a catch 22 situation-I'd considered getting the gearbox replaced - but as some inconsiderate t'*t has now damaged the car....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is the value of the car? Your premiums still rise regardless of protected no claims.....0

Depends what the fault is, if the insurance company can drive it into the back of the recovery truck it will be fine. They are unlikely to spot noisy bearings or worn selectors by just moving it round.
If the do discover it an reduce the claim accordingly you will still get something.I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling0 -
Thanks everyone for your quick responses - impressive!
Car is 10 years old - possibly worth £800 tops. Unable to select 2nd gear-so is pretty obvious! NS Wing and door damaged - Likely to attract the attention of the peelers if driven! Unable to fully open passenger door.
Of course there could be damage to suspension, trackrod?? To be honest Im that fed up Im avoiding looking at it! I appreciate there will be some affect to my premium on renewal - but we need a car and right now we are not in a position to contemplate a replacement-we could just ablout stretch to getting a 2nd hand gearbox fitted.0
