Depends on the time of year and how much luggage you aretaking with you and what type of accommodation you are staying in.

If camping, car is really the only way. If in a hotel/gite you could fly/drive or take the train and hire a car.

The train is a relatively hassle-free way of doing this and avoids the grumbles that can emanate from 2 younger children (more space to move around etc). Example return fare first week May (Sat-Sat) is £349 rtn from St Pancras to Beziers for 2 adults 2 children via Eurostar/TGV. Might avoid cost of overnight stays if you could connect at the right time in London and it is very relaxing compared to flying.

I personally would say the best way is private jet.
  • Where are you travelling from? Ryanair does direct flights to Beziers from Bristol and Luton. These can be very cheap.

Driving from Bilbao is a good 5.5 hours.

This year we are doing the same as last year:
Portsmouth to Caen, overnight ferry with cabin (good nights sleep for all of us)
Ferry arrives early morning.....about 11hour journey through France & will arrive at our campsite early evening.

We will take lots of snacks/drinks for the journey & only need to buy filled baguettes. They have lots of stopping places on the way down so no worries about toilet stops.

We will have our two girls who will be 3 & 5 1/2 when we travel. We have a DVD player for the girls. Individual screens & can either play same DVD or different ones. Eldest has her leapster. Each have a bag of toys.

We had a great journey last year & it was an enjoyable part of the holiday. Having said that our pair are used to car journeys (although usually only about 3 1/2 hours rather than all day) so it would not work if your children hated the car.

We're Keycamping near Beziers for the second year running. We are flying from Bristol to Toulouse with Easyjet - we then have a fairly easy two hour drive to the campsite. Beziers airport is only 10 mins away from the campsite but I don't fancy flying Ryanair (personal preferences I know!!).

Depending on when you are going, you could also look to flying to Montpelier or Perpignan although I don't think flights go there from the UK until the main summer season starts.

Les Sablons in Portiragnes Plage - great slides for the kids and walking distance to a great beach.

car hire seems to be expensive at around £325 for a family car and may rule flying . Did find a good website for costing toll roads and fuel called mappy.

Think we my have to drive as seems a lot cheaper
